In the planet’s seas, plastic waste takes the form of the Plastisphere; a living, animated ecosystem — a suspended composite of waste, assembled by the ocean. The Plastisphere is inhabited, and it is thriving. An inconceivable diversity of organisms, from bacteria to algae live here, clinging to the plastic, within a vast sea where surface area is scarce but vital. They eat here, they reproduce here — they have an entangled community. The communication campaign asks : What might we learn from the reality of the Plastisphere? That is, those species who have turned waste into wealth. Those species who have no choice but to live in what we’ve left behind, and so have chosen to adapt, to be opportunistic, and to thrive.
Dans les mers de la planète, les déchets plastiques prennent la forme de la Plastisphère, un écosystème vivant et animé - un composite suspendu de déchets, assemblé par l’océan. La Plastisphère est habitée, et elle prospère. Une diversité inconcevable d’organismes, des bactéries aux algues, y vivent, s’accrochant au plastique dans une vaste mer où la surface est rare mais vitale. Ils se nourrissent ici, se reproduisent ici - ils forment une communauté enchêtrée. La campagne de communication demande : que pouvons-nous apprendre de la réalité de la Plastisphère ? C’est à dire de ces espèces qui ont transformé les déchets en richesse. Ces espèces qui n’ont d’autre choix que de vivre dans ce que nous avons laissé derrière nous, et qui ont donc choisi de s’adapter, d’être opportunistes, et de prospérer.
